Welcome Home - Kitchen
Let me start out by saying this kitchen is nowhere near a dream kitchen. However I’m proud of the work that has gone into transforming it. The first thing we did was paint the walls - the color is Sherwin Williams “City Loft”. It’s very similar to Agreeable Gray but a little lighter - I love them next to each other, it’s a subtle enough difference to make an easy transition, especially with the wall being gone now.
The second thing we did was paint the cabinets and tile (did you know that you could even paint tile? Thanks to everyone that reached out and told me about it!) I have an entire blog post dedicated to the cabinets and tile here. I originally bought new pulls but they were the wrong size so I returned them. When I tried to order them in the right size they were backordered (grrr) so I just decided to spray paint them. Surprisingly I don’t hate them, although they still aren’t the ones I actually want. I told John they can stay - we’ll see for how long.
Before & After
Doesn’t it make such a difference without that wall?!
Next up was the floor. We used luxury vinyl planking (LVP) flooring and I am in LOVE. This is in my opinion was what really lightened up the space. We replaced all of the baseboards and just laid the flooring over the peel and stick that was already down. Isn’t it so pretty?!
Unfortunately the kitchen isn’t something that were able to gut and start over with so we made due with what we had. I think we were able to transform this room for under $100. Here is the breakdown of what we spent:
$100 - primer and paint for cabinets
$20 - paint and supplies for tile
$40 - paint for walls
$700 - flooring
$30 - baseboards
I still want to get some new lighting but for now this is good enough. Have you ever painted your cabinets? What are your thoughts on the process and how it turned out? Let me know in the comments!
