Makeup Tips for YOUR Face
As you probably know, I have a long withstanding relationship with makeup. It can be used to accentuate your best features - if applied correctly. There’s so many times that I’m looking at someone thinking, “god I wish they would let me fix what they’ve done”. Makeup, when done right should help make you look your very best self, thus helping to boost confidence. So I’ve put together a list of do’s and don’ts to help everyone look (and feel) their best.
Know your best assets. Everyone has something that they like (and I’m sure some they wish they could change). Instead of focusing on the things you don’t like, focus on what you do. Maybe you have pretty eyes (I’ve always wanted green instead of my boring brown), or maybe you have full lips, maybe it’s your cheekbones, or flawless skin, or full eyebrows….whatever it is, think about it. THAT’s what you should put your focus into when applying your makeup. Make whatever it is that you LIKE stand out even more.
Fill in your eyebrows. I ALWAYS start with my eyebrows because they help to frame the face. You don’t need to go overboard if you have light or thin eyebrows, but filling them in is a must. I recommend using a pencil or even just a tinted brow gel. if you don’t do this already, you will be surprised at the difference it makes.
MATCH YOUR FREAKING MAKEUP TO YOUR SKIN. Omg this is a huge pet peeve for me. Nothing bothers me more than seeing foundation/bb cream/anything that is too dark for your skin. Match it to your neck, not your face or the rest of your body. I typically go a shade or two darker than my face because I either have a self tanner on, or a real tan.
Branching off of #3, know your skin tone. Warmer skin tones tend to look best with just that - warmer shades, whether that’s eye shadow, bronzer, blush, you name it. If your skin is warm, stick with warmer shades. If your skin is cooler, stick with you guessed it, cooler shades. Unsure of what your skin tone is? Head to any beauty store and they will be able to tell you.
Don't be afraid of a little contour. Nothing major, but adding bronzer to the hollows of your cheeks and jawline will definitely help to slim your face.
Get some good brushes. They don’t have to be expensive, but if you’re using cheap sponges or the little applicators your makeup came with, it’s time to upgrade.
Go out and get your makeup done (when it’s finally safe to). Ask the makeup artist what they’re doing and how they’re applying it. You’ll leave with a pretty face and some pointers.
Lastly, take care of your skin. I’ve said it before and I won’t stop saying it. If your skin looks good, your makeup will look good. Invest in your skin. You are your biggest asset and you’ll never regret investing in that.
